Welcome from the Mayor

Mayor LeefeIt is only an apparent contradiction to observe that this global village we inhabit continues to increase in population, but decrease in its metes and bounds.  Virtually everything we do has impact on other parts of the blue planet we call home.  This is why we at the Region of Queens focus so tightly on quality of life issues.  We know that clean drinking and receiving waters make for a healthy people and a healthy environment. We know that the happy by-product is infrastructure that will attract economic investment and consequent economic opportunity.  We know by cleansing our small corner of the world that we are however modestly, reducing stress on our global natural environment. This explains why we have been very aggressive in promoting and participating in setting aside sites hosting pristine beaches, at risk flora and fauna and wilderness areas.  It also explains why we are dedicated to the construction of Queens Place, our $20 million community facility that will facilitate communal contact, wellness, sport and cultural activities.  Our schools, medical facilities and health care professionals provide excellent services to Queens and our commercial base is expanding. We are a community on the move and we are delighted to invite you to share it with us as a visitor, a new resident or an investor.  Make the transition and take the gentle leap from cyberspace to the reality that is Queens.  Escape from the usual.

Mayor John G. Leefe
